BLADETRICKS TUSK PIKAL KNIFE, CORD WRAPPED

The Bladetricks Tusk Pikal Knife Cord Wrapped Edition is the bladed, sharpened evolution of my EDC Tusk ice pick and pry bar, optimized for serious, no-nonsense use. I conceived this fixed blade for those who require a tool that transitions from a utility spike to an aggressive cutting edge.

The Tusk Knife is a reverse grip edge-in knife, designed for close-quarters efficiency that can also be used in a sabre grip when needed. The handle design ensures a secure, natural grip in either position.

For this version, I went with 8670 steel and paired it with my progressive chisel grind. The result is maximum tip durability and razor-sharp slicing power. 8670 steel is tougher than O1 tool steel and 1070 spring steel, making this pikal tool nearly indestructible under lateral stress. I also wrapped the handle in a tight, tactical cord wrap, enhancing grip while keeping it lightweight and low-profile.

No frills. No gimmicks. Just raw function. Handmade. Limited availability. Get yours before it’s gone.

Pikal methodology centers on the biomechanics of the human arm under duress. When you adopt this particular grip, you are engaging the strongest muscles in the shoulder and back, turning a simple puncture into a catastrophic tear. This pikal orientation allows for a “pulling” motion that is naturally more difficult to intercept than a standard thrust. In the tightest corners, where a full swing is impossible, the Reverse Grip Edge In (RGEI) geometry provides the leverage needed to end a confrontation. Unlike standard edge-out blades that rely on the weaker extension of the tricep, a pikal blade utilizes the superior torque generated during inward movement. This mechanical advantage ensures that the pikal edge maintains contact through the entire arc of the strike, maximizing the depth of the incision without requiring additional space for acceleration.

The 8670 steel provides the skeletal strength required for such a brutal application. This alloy, combined with my original Progressive Grind for a pikal tool, ensures that the tip remains intact after hitting hard targets, while the micro bevel allows ease of edge maintenance. This combination of metallurgy and blade geometry is the Bladetricks answer to that challenging mechanical demand.

Furthermore, the heat treatment process for this pikal instrument is calibrated to achieve a specific Rockwell hardness that balances edge retention with impact resistance. In a pikal engagement, the shock delivered to the blade is significant; a brittle edge is a failed edge. By managing the martensitic structure of the 8670 steel, I ensure that this pikal blade can withstand the violent deceleration associated with striking dense materials. I build pikal knives and tools for those who understand that survival is a matter of geometry and intent. The Tusk Knife Cord Wrapped Edition is a pikal instrument stripped of ego, refined for the connoisseur.
