The F1K is one of the more complex knives I build: a ringed karambit handle under a persian style blade. This one is the updated version \u2014 my progressive grind, and a black G10 karambit<\/strong> handle instead of micarta.<\/p>\n

The Progressive Grind<\/h2>\n

I used a compound grind on the F1K for years: two distinct angles, one for the point and one for the edge. It worked, but it interrupted the line of the edge. The progressive grind<\/a> replaces it. The angle rolls continuously from acute where the edge starts near the handle to considerably more obtuse at the point, with no step anywhere along it. Same result at both ends \u2014 a robust penetrating tip and a shaving sharp slicing edge \u2014 with nothing left to catch, a cleaner line, and a blade that is easier to maintain and sharpen.<\/p>\n

The Ringed Handle<\/h2>\n

The characteristic karambit ringed handle<\/a> gives good control of the blade in all positions. Its generous dimensions take that further: the F1K can be held in every grip position, with a finger through the ring or without using it at all.<\/p>\n

The Black G10 Karambit Handle<\/h2>\n

Black G10<\/strong>, sculpted by hand into the same facets as the micarta version<\/a>, epoxied and pinned. The whole knife runs dark \u2014 black scales, dark blade, dark ring \u2014 and the only bright surfaces left on it are the bevel and the pins. The bevel is what you read the grind by: it opens and closes along the edge, and that line is the progressive grind made visible.<\/p>\n

The F1K is one of the more complex knives I build. The complexity is in the combination: a ringed karambit handle under a persian style blade with a compound grind. A one of a kind persian karambit<\/strong> in natural micarta.<\/p>\n

The Persian Karambit Blade<\/h2>\n

Persian profile, with what I call a compound grind<\/strong><\/a>, A.K.A. a multi-grind. The angle does not stay the same along the edge. It is left obtuse and robust where the point has to penetrate, and runs acute and thin where the edge has to cut. A robust penetrating tip<\/a> and a shaving sharp slicing edge, on the same blade. The flats are left dark and textured against the polished bevel, so the grind line reads at a glance.<\/p>\n

The Ringed Handle<\/h2>\n

The characteristic karambit ringed handle<\/a> gives good control of the blade in all positions. Its generous dimensions take that further: the F1K can be held in every grip position, with a finger through the ring or without using it at all.<\/p>\n

The Micarta<\/h2>\n

My renowned industrial grade natural micarta<\/strong> was hand sculpted into facets and carefully epoxied and pinned. Industrial grade micarta is an exceptionally tough material providing a warm and secure grip. The faceted surface locks the hand in place, perfect, durable, strong and comfortable in every position and in all conditions. This setup does not fail. This handle does not move.<\/p>\n

The Pitch<\/strong> is a fork. Small enough for any pocket. Quiet enough that nobody asks questions.<\/p>\n

This is a custom version \u2014 2mm Grade 5 titanium, hand sculpted black G10 scales, pinned and epoxied.<\/p>\n

What It Is<\/h2>\n

Push dagger<\/a>. Knuckle duster. Double spike ice pick. The Pitch borrows from all three and answers to none of them.<\/p>\n

There is a school of thought that says a defensive tool should look imposing. And then there’s the totally opposite one.<\/p>\n

Two spikes, not one. The pair sets the line of attack and registers the hand at the same time. No edge to maintain. No mechanism to fail. No legal classification anyone wants to argue about.<\/p>\n

The Titanium<\/h2>\n

Grade 5 titanium<\/strong> \u2014 Ti 6Al-4V<\/a>. The alloy aerospace and medicine reach for when weight matters and failure is not a conversation they want to have. Jet turbines. Surgical implants. The places steel is not enough and aluminium will not do.<\/p>\n

At 2mm stock the Pitch carries like it isn’t there.<\/p>\n

It won’t rust. It won’t stain. Non-magnetic. Non-sparking. None of these are decorative properties.<\/p>\n

The Handle<\/h2>\n

Black G10<\/strong>, hand sculpted. G10 began life as electrical insulation \u2014 a high-pressure laminate of fibreglass and epoxy resin, dense, dimensionally stable, indifferent to moisture and temperature. Knife makers adopted it because nothing else behaves as well over decades.<\/p>\n

Scales are pinned and epoxied to the titanium body. Pins for mechanical lock. Epoxy for full bond. Either one alone is a compromise. The connection is permanent.<\/p>\n

Grip Positions<\/h2>\n

The index finger leads. The hand finds the rest without instruction.<\/p>\n

That is the correct standard for a tool you may need without preparation.<\/p>\n

Pocket Carry<\/h2>\n

83mm overall. Front pocket, jacket pocket, anywhere it needs to go. The Kydex<\/strong> sheath is hand formed to this specific piece and keeps it ready.<\/p>\n

Not every piece I build has a name attached when it begins. Small ones take their time, and so do I.<\/p>\n

I wanted to build a fighting dagger<\/a> for a long time. The concept was clear from the start \u2014 a dagger has to be simple, intuitive, and imposing. Not ornamental. Not a conversation piece. A tool designed for one purpose, with nothing added that doesn’t serve it.<\/p>\n

It took a while to arrive at the right design. The Classic Kadesh was the result. Newer versions of the Kadesh followed over the years \u2014 the geometry evolved, details shifted. But this one never left the lineup. Some proportions are right the first time.<\/p>\n

\n

The Dagger Blade<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Long and slender, with a recurve single edge and a sharp, acute point. The cross section is thinner than standard \u2014 deliberately. I wanted outstanding penetration capability without sacrificing cutting performance, and the geometry delivers both. Less material where it isn’t needed. More where it is.<\/p>\n

Exclusively designed for surprise CQC situations. The blade does not try to be versatile. It does one thing well, and it does it completely.<\/p>\n

The Steel<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For a blade this slender, steel choice isn’t a preference \u2014 it’s a structural requirement. I needed a steel that could hold this geometry under real stress without failing. The answer was 4340 high-strength alloy steel.<\/p>\n

4340 is the reference for toughness. It’s the same material used in military aircraft components and heavy-duty crankshafts \u2014 chosen in those applications for exactly the same reason I chose it here: exceptional tensile and yield strength under extreme load. Properly heat treated to \u00b155 HRC, it produces the toughest blade achievable at this cross section, with acceptable edge retention. There was no other serious option.<\/p>\n

\n

The Handle<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Natural industrial grade linen micarta. I chose it because it works \u2014 dense, dimensionally stable, unaffected by moisture, sweat, or extended hard use. It gets worse-looking and better-performing over time. For a working knife, that’s exactly the right trade.<\/p>\n

The scales are fitted full tang, pinned and riveted with aluminium pins, then bonded with slow-cure epoxy \u2014 24 hours clamped in the bench vice. Not a fast process. The result is a handle with no movement, no loosening, no weak points. It will outlast almost anything you put it through.<\/p>\n

Grip Versatility<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I designed the handle geometry to lock naturally in every standard fighting grip position \u2014 no adjustment, no repositioning required. Forward grip: hammer, saber, Filipino, reinforced palm. Reverse grip: edge-in, edge-out. In each position, the hand finds its place without thinking about it.<\/p>\n

In a CQC situation, that’s not a comfort feature. It’s a functional requirement.<\/p>\n

\n

The Fighting Dagger Lineage<\/h2>\n

The Classic Kadesh sits in the tradition of the commando fighting daggers developed since the Second World War \u2014 the Fairbairn\u2013Sykes<\/a>, the Gerber Mark II, carried by OSS operatives, Marine Raiders, the Dutch Commando Corps, the Rangers. Each of those designs was built around the same principle: one purpose, no compromise, nothing wasted.<\/p>\n

That’s what I was working toward with the Kadesh. I built my version of it. This is still the one I reach for.<\/p>\n

The Classic Kadesh is the Bladetricks interpretation of that lineage. A handmade fighting dagger built one at a time, with the same intent those designs were built around. Nothing added that doesn’t serve the purpose. Nothing removed that does.<\/p>\n

This interesting and original double edge dagger is made of 8670, a tough steel<\/a> known for its ability to absorb impact without structural failure. This geometry is specifically intended for Pikal<\/a> (edge-up) use, ensuring that the tool functions as a lethal extension of the hand from any angle.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The handle features a specialized knuckle-duster design with hand-sculpted G10 scales, pinned and epoxied for absolute permanence. This grip provides a level of retention that makes dislodging the blade nearly impossible, especially under extreme pressure. It is a design that respects the anatomy of a closed fist.<\/h3>\n

Defined by its straightforward design and solid construction, this compact EDC combat knife prioritizes efficiency over unnecessary bulk.<\/h4>\n

A trench knife is a combat tool designed to incapacitate an enemy at close quarters, such as in a trench or other confined area. It was developed as a close combat weapon for soldiers attacking enemy trenches during the First World War<\/a>.<\/span> These tools were born from the brutal necessity of the Great War, where long rifles and bayonets proved useless in the mud-soaked confines of a trench raid. The combat knife had to be silent, indestructible, and impossible to drop. My design honors the heritage of those early tools while refining the materials for modern survival.<\/h4>\n

The Pikal technique remains the most efficient way to utilize a blade in a high-stress environment. Derived from Filipino martial arts, Pikal employs a reverse grip with the edge facing the operator.<\/span> This allows for powerful, biomechanically natural pulling and hooking strikes that are nearly impossible to defend against in a tight space. Every strike is decisive, and this combination of history and geometry ensures the professional holds the best possible blade in his hand.<\/h4>\n
